Before I reached out to Evolve to Excel, I was feeling unmotivated and lost about how to restart my nutrition journey. I feel truly free and comfortable enough to make decisions regarding nutrition on my own. I’ve built so many new lifestyle habits along the way as well. Working with Evolve To Excel and Gregory Sutton has been one of the upsides this year for me as it has been rough on a lot of us. I have been doing Brazilian Jiu Jitsu since 2011 and have struggled to maintain balance with my weight, with a few lingering injuries that kept me on the sidelines for a few years. I have a great strength coach and was doing quite well, but I was missing the nutrition piece. I was going into my Nationals qualifying meet in 2019 and was totally panicked that I was not going to make weight, I was miserable. I did make weight and qualified for Nationals, but immediately following that meet I found Greg and I’ve never looked back!! He dialed in my macros and we did a body recomp while I was prepping for Nationals. I never felt better in my life!! Went to Nationals 10 pounds under my weight class max and took home the wins including two world records. 

Competition is stressful enough, taking the worry of making weight out of the equation makes all the difference. I have since had a couple of injuries and a surgery that Greg has helped me through and I know it’s because of his guidance my recovery has been seamless. He has changed my intakes based on where I am in life and in competition. He has taught me how to enjoy social events and treats guilt-free and jump right back on the program. There is no way I would have been able to accomplish what I have on the platform and have the healthy relationship I have with food and my nutrition without the guidance and tutelage of Greg, I’m forever grateful!

When I first started working with Greg almost 3 years ago, I had just gotten out of an abusive relationship. I was using food to cope and got to a place where I was always tired, sick all the time, and just felt horrible about myself. I decided that since my diet was something I COULD control, I would seek help. I have been working with Greg ever since. 

This journey hasn’t been easy, but it has been life changing. My relationship with food was always very guilt driven. I would, as they say, “eat my feelings”, and then I would experience an enormous amount of guilt. Greg was there every step of the way as I navigated the overhaul on my relationship with food. This was about getting my physical body to a healthy and strong place, but more than that, it was about getting my mind to a healthy and strong place. I was struggling with so many things: my nutrition, my habits, my body image. I had a very unhealthy relationship with food and I knew I needed guidance and support. I feel like a completely new person! I’m confident in the habits I’ve built. Before I worked with Greg and E2E, I didn’t know what I was doing when it came to nutrition. I would hit the gym hard- crossfit, weight training, powerlifting, you name it, but never see much results. I’ve always been a foodie and I really enjoy craft beer, but I didn’t understand how my food intake impacted my health. Getting a bit older, I realized I was gaining a lot of weight and needed to make a change for myself and my future.

It’s been quite a journey and I’m not done yet. Last December I had my first child and to say I was skeptical that I’d ever lose the baby weight and feel strong again is an understatement. I started my nutrition training with Vanessa at 8 weeks postpartum. While macro counting and working hard in the gym is not new to me, doing so while sleep-deprived, maintaining milk supply, and minimal time at the gym was. Frustrated is the best way to describe how I was feeling. I had started my fitness journey a couple years prior weighing 308 pounds. I had already lost about 60lbs from when I started CrossFit to when I signed up for nutrition. However, I had gained and lost the same 20lbs over two years. I very much thought that I could work off food doing CrossFit and also would “earn” food by doing 2 days on the weekend. That led to overtraining and injuring myself. That ankle injury forced me to have to not workout for months…which led to weight gain and me generally feeling progressively more miserable.

I will always remember the day that I made the choice to sign up for nutrition. I was trying to get dressed for the airport and was planning on wearing the same thing that I wore on the flight there; however, I didn’t fit into it…by a lot. These are all words that I would use to describe myself now. They are NOT words I would’ve used 4 years ago. I now regularly seek to challenge myself and get out of my comfort zone….In all of life, not just specifically related to nutrition. The positive crossover into my life has been absolutely amazing and something I didn’t foresee happening. The growth that continues to happen is something for which I will always be grateful.

I lost over 100 pounds working with Greg and gained so much more than I could have ever hoped. Weight loss really happened as a result of implementing small changes and better habits. My strength has significantly increased beyond anything I thought was possible.

I don’t know where to begin! I have been working with Vanessa since 2018. I had a horrible body image, a worse relationship with food and an all-or-nothing mindset when it came to almost everything in life.
